Johnson & Johnson has agreed on a settlement of $158 million that they must pay in a Texas suit. The lawsuit stems from the drug Risperdal, which they had marketed for uses not approved by U.S. regulators, including for children with psychiatric disorders.

The company disregarded the admonitions to not market Risperdal beyond its approved use. They did not follow the drug's label which stated, "Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established." Risperdal also caused medically serioud weight gain which lead patients to develop diabetes.

 Texas was not the only state to come against this drug in the form of a lawsuit. Johnson & Johnson has also been sued for their marketing of Risperdal in Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, utah, Louisian and South Carolina.
