Our office has covered a variety of pedestrian-vehicle accidents in our blog. These type of accidents happen more often than many realize. The National Highway & Traffic Administration reported that there were 69,000 pedestrians injured in car-pedestrian accidents in 2011 alone. Of these accidents, over 4,000 individuals died as a result of the injuries sustained as pedestrians.
Accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles can be the result of distracted driving. For example, if a motorist in turning with a green light, but they do not keep their eyes peeled for a pedestrian who has the right-of-way to cross the street, they may hit the pedestrian, contributing to these startling statistics and causing serious injury or death.
We do not have many details regarding the Norwalk woman who was hit by the pickup truck, highlighted above, but if the accident was due to the driver’s distraction or failure to be aware of the pedestrian crossing the street, they would be deemed at fault and the woman could possibly file a personal injury claim.
Alcohol is also a major contributor to the number of pedestrian-vehicle accidents. Over 70% of car-pedestrian accidents involve alcohol.
