Newborn Attacked by Family Dog
Three-day-old newborn Makayla Darnell suffered a severe head injury after being attacked by family’s pit bull mix. The newborn was placed in her swing to be fed when the child’s mother 22-year-old Audrianna Myers and 44-year-old grandmother Janette Myers were in the kitchen. Investigators claim the two women heard a whimper from the child when they came into the room and took the child to the local hospital. The child was then quickly flown to Toledo Hospital where she died at 11 p.m. Friday. The Coroner of Lucas County defined the death caused by blunt force trauma which was determined after the head was bitten by the family dog.
The family resides in North Allen County in Lima, Ohio where their four year old male pit bull roams the house. The dog is currently in the Allen County Dog warden Services until further investigation has been done. Neither of the women could be reached.
