New Truck Accident Guidelines Requested | Toledo, Ohio truck accident lawyer

A collection of five highway safety advocate groups wrote a letter recently to Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. They are calling for new guidelines that they say would help reduce the number of truck accidents on the nation's highways.

Their suggestions include:
  • Limiting the top speed in semi trucks to 65 mph or less
  • Lowering maximum hours of service requirements in order to reduce fatigue
  • Use technology to track hours of service instead of paper log books
  • Pay drivers in a way other than by the mile so they don't feel pressured to drive as fast and as far as possible

They also say increasing truck sizes and weights pose a serious threat to the safety of American drivers.
