New Rules to Protect Rollover Crash Victims | Toledo car accident attorney

In an effort to prevent passengers from being ejected through side windows in rollover car accidents, a new rule has been issued requiring automakers to take extra precautions with their vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rollover crashes are the most deadly type of car accidents. The agency has said the new regulations may save as many as 373 lives a year.

Although the rule does not mandate how the automakers carry out the new protective measures, some of their options include window glazing (which prevents shattering during crashes) and side-curtain airbags.

This new rule will be phased in starting in 2013, and by model year 2018 all new vehicles will be required to adhere to the mandate.
