Kid and teen accident death rate falls 30%
A new government report that was released Monday shows that the death rate of people under the age of 19 in accidents has dropped 30% since 2000. In 2000 there were 12,400 deaths and in 2009 that number was down to 9,100. There was a 41% traffic fatalities, which was a huge factor in the decrease. Even with this drop accidental injuries still is the main cause of death for children ages 1 to 19. Also dropping were deaths from drowning, fire, and falls, but there was a major increase of prescription drug overdose.
