Driving in the Drifting Snow
The current conditions are dangerous because the blowing and drifting snow can reduce visibility and make certain areas of the roadway very dangerous.
Our tips to drivers who will be out during this weather are the following
- Drive with extreme caution – the road may be clear at one point and then covered with snow just yards away. Drive slow and be prepared to come across patches of snow-covered roadway.
- Pay attention on bridges – we all know that bridges freeze first, but with today’s frigid temperatures, the risk is even greater. Drive very slow and cautiously over bridges and certain roadways.
- Use your emergency lights – turn your flashers on if you come to an area of the roadway that requires you to drive even slower. This will help you to notify any vehicles behind you of the danger and hopefully prevent accidents.
- Drive at your own pace – there will be some vehicles that seem to drive as if the roadways are under normal conditions. Do not let this affect the way that you drive. You must drive with caution, keeping yourself and others safe.
Accident in the Frigid Weather
If you are driving in this weather, make sure you have certain items in your vehicle in the event that you are involved in an accident. It is very cold out, so have extra blankets, gloves, hats, and keep some food and water with you.
Toledo Police are operating under a Phase 2, only responding to injury accidents. This can affect the time you would spend out in the cold temperatures on the side of the road. Make sure you are prepared by taking these simple precautions.
Injured in a Level 2 Snow Emergency
If you have been involved in an accident during this weather and suffered injury, contact a personal injury attorney.
A lawyer will help you to receive a settlement that covers the medical treatment you will have to seek, the lost wages if you are unable to work, and of course, financial compensation to cover the pain and suffering that results from the injuries.
