There were two separate crashes on Sunday in Ohio that ended up killing six people.
Fatal Accident in Columbiana County
One of the victims, 11-year-old Addisyn Benzel, was thrown from the cargo area of an SUV after the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, Rachel Lindesmith crossed the center line and collided with the SUV. Benzel’s parents, 39-year-old James Nign and 27-year-old Meghann Nign were also killed in the accident. There were a total of six children in the SUV. A six-year-old girl was also sitting on Meghann Nign’s lap, suffering injuries in the accident and taken to the hospital.
It was been reported by the Highway Patrol that Addisyn Benzen, Meghann Nign and James Nign were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. There were three children between 9 months and 4 years old that were in child safety seats in the SUB and two other 11-year-olds who were not wearing seat belts.
This accident is very tragic. It appears as though Lindesmith caused the accident when crossing over the line of the roadway, but proper restraints were not used in the SUV on the children who were injured and killed in the accident.
