Emch's Blade column addresses limited in ability of subcontractors to place liens on homes

I recently had a reader of my Toledo Blade column ask me about the ability of subcontractors to place liens on homes. Subcontractors have the ability to do this, but they are pretty limited in what they can do. In this case, the woman who wrote had bought the home from the general contractor. It was a spec house, so she didn't have anything to do with it being built. Because the general had been paid completely before the lien was filed, the subcontractor had to lift the lien. I'd advise anyone who had a lien placed on their home to contact a lawyer immediately. It might take some time, but there are steps that can be taken to remove the lien.
