Dozens of other states have banned use of cell phones by minors and bus drivers.

A 2005 controlled study of Australian drivers found that people who were talking on cell phones were four times as likely to get into a serious accident. In 1997, a study of Canadian drivers linked cell phone usage with increased property damage. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reported that phone conversation tasks typically decreased reaction times, travel speeds, and increased lane deviations and steering wheel movements.
