Five boaters are now recovering after being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning on Saturday. The captain, his wife and three female relatives went boating overnight; before they went to sleep they ran a generator. While they were sleeping the carbon monoxide worked its way into the main cabin. The captain's wife woke up and tried to move about the boat, she could hardly walk, was stumbling and dizzy; she knew something was not right about the situation. She then woke everyone else up and called 911, when the emergency crew arrived all five of the passengers were dizzy, confused and ill and were all then taken to the hospital. A doctor in the emergency room said "The tough thing about carbon monoxide is that it's odorless and colorless, and there's really no way to detect it until you start having symptoms." The fire department had found high levels of carbon monoxide on the boat. The doctor from the emergency room also said that "People are better educated about what to look for in their home. They tend to run into problems when they're heating their barn, they're running a generator in their garage and boats would be another one, any enclosed space is especially dangerous."
