16-Year-Old Oregon Boy Killed in Truck Accident ?Oregon Ohio Truck Accident Attorney

A pick-up truck collided with a tipping semi-truck at the intersection of Wynn Road and Navarre Avenue in Oregon, Ohio.

Cody Van Hersett, 16, a sophomore from Clay High School Oregon, Ohio was traveling westbound on Navarre Ave January 12 in the afternoon when he hit a semi-truck that was turning left from Navarre Ave onto Wynn Road head on. Harsett was pronounced dead at the scene. Driver of the semi-truck Lyle Schmidt, 78, of Merrill, Wisconsin was not injured during the accident. He had been a truck driver since 1960 and had driven over four millions with out an accident.

Mr. Schmidt was charged but pleaded no contest to one second-degree misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide, which carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail. Judge Jeffrey Keller of Oregon Municipal Court sentenced him to up to 90 days in jail Monday, but if he does not violate probation will only receive 70 days. Lyle Schmidt was also ordered to two years probation, pay $830 in fees and court costs, and loss of his driver’s license for two years. Mr. Schmidt was very emotional and was not allowed to face the family of Cody when he apologized for what had happened.
